This week’s recipe was inspired by an excellent recipe for pineapple and ginger mojitos that I came across earlier today. So I followed the thought trail to a refreshing Azeri drink that can be tailored to suit your tastes and needs.
This recipe is incredibly simple – the basis of each drink requires:
500g granulated sugar
1.5 – 2 litres of boiling water
Dissolve the sugar into the water to make a syrup, adjusting the amount of water to your sweet desire. Then just add whichever fruity flavour you desire – pomegranate seeds, lemon zest, even tea rose petals. Be generous with the amount you add – you want to make sure it tastes of more than just sugary water. Other fruit that work well are peaches, nectarines, pineapples, pink grapefruit or orange zest – but do not be scared to experiment with whatever you fancy! If it tastes horrible then start again and try a different fruit.
Leave the liquid to chill in the fridge and serve over ice and a slice. And there you have it – the perfect accompaniment to lunch or a refreshing afternoon drink to cool down.
Why not add some white rum to make it into an after work aperitif? Give it a go!
